ACCORDING TO FREAKING ENGLISH MARKS.
anyway, how many secondary schools stream their sec ones? NOT MANY, I'D SAY.
and it's unfair to stream by english. it's unfair to some people whose overall is really really good but aren't that strong in english. like, the person may be put in a not-so-good class because of their english marks.
if she wanted a streaming then she could have at least streamed by overall.
alright, maybe she streamed us according to english because she wanted to like, group those stronger in english together and likewise for the weaker.
so that she can assign some very-good-in-chinese teacher to the stronger classes and very-good-in-english teacher to the weaker classes. so that we can IMPROVE?
but the thing with youngsters nowdays is that they're more influenced by their surroundings. and friends. teachers not that much. well unless they harbour some intense rancour towards that particular teacher. then they'll probably go all the way to annoy that particular teacher.
coming back to the point, if those strong in english are surrounded by others strong in english their chinese standards would probably drop. i mean, come into class and the only language you seem to speak is english. (excluding swearing in chinese and dialect.)
AND since english is spoken more often chinese will probably be left in some folorn old corner. left to decay and rot.
and vice versa for those stronger in chinese.
AND, isn't AHS supposed to be some SAP school? shouldn't chinese be on the same level as english? just because they force us to take ACC (which is pointless) and offer higher chinese to nearly all the classes dosen't mean that we can live up to the title of SAP school. please, if chinese were as important as english then we won't be just streamed by our english marks alone.
and while i'm on the topic of ACC, i think it's pointless. the only other school i know that has ACC is catholic high. (in case you don't know, ACC stands for Appreciation of Chinese Culture)and guess what we do during ACC lessons?
WE COPY FROM POWERPOINT SLIDES.
and not only that, we copy from CHINESE powerpoint slides. AND the teacher talks in chinese too. AND WE DO THAT FOR ONE WHOLE FRIGGING HOUR.
and what's worse it's about these dead and gone people with the weirdest and more difficult to copy names from ancient china. and it's not only one or two, it's a dynasty. and not only ONE dynasty. bloody crap, and it dosen't help that they all look the same in their pictures. (high forehead, sagging skin, long moustache, bald spots, tiny eyes for the uncles. and long long long long lookalike dresses and teeeeeeeeeny eyes and high forheads again and porcelain skin and long hair tied to look like a lump of cha shao bao thingies for the ladies.) crap, their names even sound the same after some time. and so do the characters in their names.
then you have to scribble down all the freaking chinese characters. and i don't even know how to read some of them. and like, fifty of them are introduced to us in one lesson. and we are still expected to know in which dynasty they belonged in and what they did.
and guess what? after one schooling year of taking ACC i still can't name all the dynasties. and the only cheena guy i can name is qin shi huang. and only because mother forced me to watch this gory movie on him and his stupid blood-drenched three countries' romance/war or something. and the only things i know about the guy is that he built the long wall. and only because i was made to climb it. as well as him being a super super big womanizer. with like, i-don't-know-how-many-but-it's-a-lot concubines. who seemed to want nothing more than to be the Queen or something. OH YAR, and i know he did the wu2 ma3 fen1 si1 (five horse split) thingy. because i had plotted to do that once. :D
digressing violently. ANYWAY, dr boon ALSO (i would like to use tyrannical to describe her but it seems too much of an exaggeration so fine.) abolished the sport class rule. no more sport classes next year. :/
i don't mean to like, stereotype all sport class students or be mean to them or isolate them, but somehow they're different from us. i mean, it's just this feeling.i know some nice people from the sport classes but still. i think abolishing the sport classes would somehow affect the whole student body in some way or the other. i'd rather have it the way it is right now, actually.
anyway, i think sport classes have always existed since way back. and DrBoon had to just disregard that somewhat 'traditional' thingy and jumble everyone up. WITHOUT NOTIFYING THE STUDENT BODY IN ADVANCE. we're a major part of the school, wheather she'd acknowledge it or not. we should have our own say too. hey, if we all decided to revolt and marched out of the school gates AHS would be nothing. n,o,t,h,i,n,g at all.
i'd rather she put an end to the friday morning zao3 cao1s.
AND she also took away some funds from CCAs (i.e. choir) to build the (REDUNDANT) indoor netball court. that non-sports people probably won't get to use.
and it's not like we're lacking any sport areas in ahs. there's the indoor staduim (which holds an indoor basketball court), field, street soccer court, already existing netball court, outdoor basketball court, then the table tennis room. like how many freaking more courts does she want?
and did she consult us? NOOOOOOOOOOO.
and in order to build the court THE FITNESS CORNER WAS KNOCKED DOWN.
the fitness corner which EVERYONE could use.
please, if she had to squander away the funds AT LEAST waste it on something EVERYONE can use. like a study corner or something. or more overseas immersion trips. or getting teachers. {not saying that the current ones are THAT bad} or sponsoring the less-well-to-do students.
sometimes it feels as though drboon is concentrating more on the sport groups than the performing arts. OR our studies, for that matter. how ironic that SHE was the one who lectured us about our dropping grades. and how she's not going to build something unrelated to acedemic stuff instead of something that would give us an acedemic boost.
hah, imagine if our school's standard dropped so much that we'll be forced to drop the title of Anglican HIGH school. and became Anglican Secondary School instead. how pleasant that would sound, hmn? if you get what i mean. :/
